Laser vision correction surgery is ideal if you suffer from a variety of vision problems. This surgery involves a skilled surgeon altering the shape of the cornea. Laser surgery can allow patients to see clearly without the need for glasses or contact lenses.

However, laser vision correction surgery should be considered carefully. Before the surgery begins patients are checked by a surgeon to determine if their eyes are healthy enough.

It is very important to look for a laser eye surgeon who suits your needs perfectly. Look for a doctor who has a lot of experience and a good track record. You could always ask to see references or testimonials.

You should choose a surgeon that you feel completely comfortable with. They should be easy to talk and should understand your needs perfectly. You should also discuss the payment schedule.

Check that the doctor has a license to perform the surgery. You should be able to check this with your local healthcare service.

Laser vision correction surgery uses advanced technology which is continuously improving, so it really is an effective way of correcting your sight.

How does laser eye surgery work?

Laser eye surgery is an effective way of correcting visual problems and can give your eyes a new lease of life.

Once you have decided to opt for laser eye surgery, your surgeon will advise you to stop wearing contact lenses for few weeks prior to the surgery, as contact lenses can change the shape of the cornea, and it may take few weeks for it to reshape. However, you can still wear glasses during this period.

During the surgery

Laser eye surgery is relatively quick, although it depends on the severity of the condition that you’re being treated for. The laser system includes a machine with a microscope and a computer screen. The doctor may use eye drops before using a lid speculum to keep your eyes open.

The surgeon will then use an instrument called microkeratome to make a flap in the cornea. After this, your surgeon will lift the flap and fold it back on its hinge- this helps to dry the exposed tissue. The laser is then directed onto the tissue. A computer controls the laser energy and after the laser has vaporised the tissue, the flap is placed back into position.

After laser eye surgery, a shield will be given to you and it is very important to wear this as instructed until your surgeon tells you otherwise.

Wearing contact lenses should be avoided prior to laser surgery

Patients who look forward to correcting their eyesight with the help of laser eye surgery should avoid wearing their contact lenses prior to their evaluation for treatment. Reported in Chicago times, the advice is given by American Academy of Ophthalmology’s, Marguerite McDonald.

According to the authority, people wearing soft contact lenses need to leave them out a fortnight prior to their initial evaluation for the operation. On the other hand, hard contact lens wearers need to switch to glasses at least four weeks before. Also, the ones who wear Toric soft contact lenses for correcting astigmatism should stop wearing them for at least three weeks before the evaluation.

Ms McDonald also said that the contact lenses can alter the shape of cornea and hence they need to be kept aside to help surgeons determine the eye problems appropriately. Recently, Roger Bliss shared his experience about Lipshitz Macular Implant in his eye to battle his age linked macular degeneration.

Mr Biss, the very first patient in America or Europe, said that the implant produced by Isaac Lipshitz, an Israeli doctor eradicated the blind spot from his left eye and enhanced his ability to observe in detail. So, if you are opting for a laser eye surgery, you need to make sure that you stop using the contact lenses prior to the diagnosis.

The eyes are one of the most sensitive organs we have in our body. Yet there are many among us who fail to take proper care of them. We tend to ignore them and rather feel that it would be a better option to strain our eyes than using an aid to help us see clearly.

Advantages of having Lasik eye treatment
With the new Lasik eye surgery, wearing glasses has almost certainly become a thing of the past. Those of you who may feel it awkward to wear glasses or for that matter a contact lenses, the best thing for you may be permanent eye correction surgery. Even using glasses and even contact lenses for a long period can cause considerable damage to you eyes. Glasses have a tendency of slipping and falling down. There are also the corners of your vision that the glasses may not cover resulting in you straining your eyes. This results in your eyesight growing even worse and leaves you with higher numbered glasses.

The dangers of contact lenses
Contact lenses had come as an answer to the problems faced with glasses. But recently studies have proved that it can be even more harmful than glasses and can even cause blindness. This study said that a lot of people in the UK have been suffering from Acanthamoeba Keratitis (AK), an eye infection that can result in permanent blindness. Ophthalmologists say that this is caused by differences in the hardness of water and due to contact lenses not being stored properly. It is mostly seen in South London.

Laser eye surgery is being hailed as the next big thing in vision correction. People from all walks of life who are fed up with using glasses and contact lenses have opted for laser eye surgery. Laser eye surgery is being used extensively by athletes and people who work in high risk environments. People who are tired of wearing glasses have been the first to get corrective surgery of the eyes. Today laser eye surgery is becoming more and more common and this just means that now everyone can see clearly.

Before you opt for laser eye surgery and experience better and clearer vision, you should do ample research about what laser surgery is and what it can do for you. There are predominantly two types of laser eye surgery procedures that are in use today. They are LASIK surgery and PRK surgery. Both these procedures reshape the cornea in order to improve the overall vision of your eyes. These procedures completely stop the need to wear glasses. The success of the procedure depends on the state of vision before the surgery.

The PRK procedure is a relatively older procedure and works by etching off the epidermis of the cornea thus improving vision. The LASIK surgery procedure reshapes the top layer of the cornea for correcting the vision. Both procedures have the same goal but differ in terms of healing time and procedure duration.

Of all the sensory organs in our bodies, our eyes are definitely the most delicate and most important. The smallest particles can affect the eyes and cause more damage than you can imagine. While people with correct vision may not be able to imagine the inconvenience of not being able to see properly, those with impaired vision are always hoping for a suitable way to correct their eyes.

Traditional ways of vision correction:

The first way in which vision could be corrected was through the use of glasses. For decades, wearing glasses was the only way to improve eyesight and many people were quite content with it.

However, with the introduction of contact lenses, the value of glasses diminished. More people started to opt for lenses because it did not involve having something stuck on your nose and many people felt that lenses were more attractive. Regardless of this, both traditional vision correction techniques have their limitations. And since then, a new vision correction method has been introduced to the world and the benefits have surpassed those of glasses and lenses.

Seeing the world in a whole new way:

The introduction of laser eye surgery has opened up peoples’ eyes to the wonders of medical technology. The current and most effective vision correction technique, laser eye surgery can eliminate short sightedness and far sightedness completely. The entire surgery can finish within an hour and recovery is usually not more than a week.

The excellent result that laser eye surgery provides is why many people suffering from eye impairments all over the world are opting for it.

Laser eye surgery – the best alternative to contact lenses

Contact lenses are used to correct eyesight problems like farsightedness, nearsightedness, astigmatism or presbyopia. Contact lenses can also be used those by those people who have undergone cataract surgery. The contact lenses are made up of different materials which can either be rigid or soft. They come in a wide range of colours and designs. These include coloured, disposable, aphakic, astigmatic, keratoconic and presbyopic lenses. However, contact lenses are not suitable options for everyone as they carry several disadvantages.

Contact lenses can develop deposits on the lens and also become uncomfortable to wear when they become old. There can also be nicks and scratches in the lens or people can suffer problems with lubrication. With such problems, you will need to replace your contact lens after a certain period of time which will thus increase you expenses. One of the major disadvantages of contact lenses is that they cannot be worn all the time. For example, a swimmer cannot wear contact lenses for a long period of time.

Contact lenses can also cause allergies. The most common source for these allergies is the preservative that is used in the contact lens solutions. In the past, thimerasol was one of the commonly used preservatives which could lead to severe allergic problems.

The best way to avoid all these problems is by choosing laser eye surgery. After having laser eye surgery, people can get rid of their external vision correction objects like glasses and contact lenses.
