Different eye problems and laser eye treatment
Posted in Eye Problems on September 8, 2008
When an image is not accurately focused on the retina, which is the back of the eye, vision becomes blurred. The conventional method of correcting eyesight related problems are with spectacles and lenses, although since the advent of laser eye surgery, a lot of improvements have been made.
Some major eye problems are:
Short Sight (Myopia): This is hereditary and usually occurs during adolescence. Distant objects looked blurry and closer ones clearer, as the eyes power to focus is too strong. This is treatable as one can wear contact lenses or spectacles, but laser eye treatment can also help immensely. It is a reliable treatment.
Long Sight (Hyperopia): This is the complete opposite from myopia, as the eyes ability to focus is weak in this case. Objects less than 6 feet away will be difficult to see clearly. Laser treatment is still highly experimental in this area.
Astigmatism: This is caused when the eye is shaped a little differently than normal, being more elliptical. Distance is not a factor here and an object may look partially distorted as only parts of that object are focused upon. This problem too, can be treated with laser eye surgery.
Reading Glasses (Presbyopia): This condition usually comes with age, as the eye muscles grow old and tired. There is no laser eye surgery currently which can be performed to eliminate this problem.
