Do you qualify for Lasik Eye Surgery?
Posted in LASIK Surgery on September 18, 2008
LASIK surgery for eyesight correction is not recommended in all cases as it might pose some risk in particular cases. In the following cases, LASIK surgery is not recommended:
An immune system disease: Some diseases, which affect your immune system, slow the healing process after surgery. If you have rheumatoid arthritis or HIV, for example, the wound after surgery does not heal properly and is also exposed to various kinds of infection. So, while immunosuppressive drugs are being administered, undergoing this surgery is not safe. Persistent dry eyes: Sometimes because of an autoimmune disease such as Sjogrens syndrome, dryness in the eye is created. This condition is not conducive for eye surgery. Eye characteristics: If you have an uneven corneal surface or otherwise an abnormal shape in the cornea, surgery becomes difficult and therefore should be avoided. Vision stability: If the vision quality is diminishing and keeps fluctuating, the surgery is not advisable. Miscellaneous factors: There may be many other factors as decided by the surgeons to make the surgery impossible such as deep socketed eyes, etc.
It is recommended to seek a qualified medical experts advice before deciding to go for LASIK surgery.
