As the benefits of laser eye surgery becomes more and more popular, almost everyone suffering with eye impairments wants to get this treatment. This medical procedure is known to effectively treating nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism. Affordable costs for this procedure have also made more and more people consider this method of getting rid of eye problems.

However, laser eye surgery is not applicable for everyone. There are certain factors that can make patients ineligible for this treatment. Here are some of the criterions required for people to undergo laser eye surgery.

Over 18 years - This is the first and most important requirement for becoming eligible for laser eye surgery. Anyone under 18 years is immediately disqualified from this procedure. This is because the shape of the eye continues to change until you are an adult. In some cases, surgeons also want patients to be above 25 years for this treatment. The reason for this is an underdeveloped bone structure of the skull can affect the shape of the eye.

Stable eye condition - Another decisive factor in laser eye surgery is that patients should have a stable eye condition for at least a year. This is because laser surgery will not deliver permanent results if an eye problem progresses.

Nursing or pregnant mother - Pregnant women or nursing mothers are also disqualified from this procedure as they would have to consume drugs during and after the surgery. These drugs can adversely affect a growing foetus or on a nursing child.

In addition to this, recurring eye infections can also make your ineligible for laser eye surgery as it can result in post operative issues.
