When it comes to treating common eye problems, LASIK eye surgery is one of the most common treatments available today. The main reason for this is the results offered through this procedure. However, LASIK surgery is a big decision that has to be well thought out. It also requires a great deal of care on the patients part to ensure the surgery is a success.

Most people feel that finding a good surgeon is the only requirement to have a successful LASIK surgery. But there are some other ways to prepare before the actual treatment.

Stop wearing glasses - One of the first things patients have to do before a LASIK surgery is to stop wearing glasses about a week before the operation. This is necessary to allow the cornea to take its original shape.

Avoid cosmetics - Another measure that patients have to take before the LASIK surgery is to avoid wearing cosmetics like perfumes, lotions and scented creams. This is because they contain chemicals that could infect the eye. For this reason it is important to avoid using these cosmetics, especially on your face.

Be honest with the doctor - Make sure you are honest and communicative with the surgeon during the consultation stage. Let the surgeon know about the present eye condition or allergies and medications, if you have any. Telling the surgeon this will prevent any complications that may crop up during the LASIK surgery.

You should also ensure you have a family member or friend to take you to and from the eye clinic as your vision may be blurry and you will need assistance when travelling.
