Is laser eye surgery the right choice for you?

Laser eye surgery has helped many people to obtain clearer vision without the help of glasses or contact lenses. It is possible to correct a variety of visual errors, such as short-sightedness and long-sightedness successfully via this refractive surgery.

LASIK is the name that pops in everyones mind when people think of laser eye surgery. An excimer laser is used in LASIK surgery- to reshape the cornea- which helps the eye to process images in a more effective way. The laser eye surgeon creates a flap in the outer layer of the cornea to access the underlying corneal tissue. Irrespective of the method you select, you must have an adequately thick cornea in order to qualify for LASIK. This procedure may be risky for patients with thin corneas and they will generally not be allowed to undergo the surgery.

Apart from the issues of the cornea, you may also be eligible for laser eye surgery if:

You are 18 or above

There is no scarring on the cornea

Your vision has been stable for at least one year

Your eyes have been free from any infection or injury for at least the past year

Consult a reputed ophthalmologist who will test your eyes and conduct the surgery accordingly.
