The different kinds of laser eye surgery

There are a number of procedures that are available today that include photorefractive keratectomy (PRK) which involves the removal of the epithelium or the outer layer or the cornea. After the removal of the cornea, the tissue underneath is reshaped using an excimer laser.

The latest procedure that is involved in laser eye surgery which is called Lasik or laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis is now more commonly used. This procedure is a lot more effective, safe and quick as compared to PRK. In this procedure, a microkeratone is used in order to create a flap in the corneal tissue in your eye. This flap is then lifted in order to reshape the underlying tissue with the help of an excimer laser. At the end of this process the flap is put back into place.

With the advancements in the field of medical science, it sure would be a wise decision to opt for laser eye surgery to get rid of any kind of eye-related problems.
