Laser eye surgery for vision correction
Posted in Laser Eye Surgery on January 21, 2010
People suffering from eye problems such as farsightedness, nearsightedness, and astigmatism can be treated successfully with the help of vision correction surgery.
Through laser eye surgery, the sight of an individual can be improved massively. Laser eye surgery is popular as it is relatively painless and doesnt have many severe side effects.
Process of laser eye surgery
The surgeon covers the area surrounding the eyes with an antiseptic solution so that the chances of infection are reduced. Anaesthetic drops are then put in the eye. During the procedure, the cornea is partially cut through the front surface and a flap is created. A cool beam of excimer laser is then used to help to reform the cornea. The microscopic layers of the tissue are also restructured.
After the laser treatment, the flap which is created is placed back on top of the newly formed tissue of the cornea, helping them to merge back together.
Individuals who are 20 or over and have had stable vision for over a year are eligible for this surgery.
The length of laser eye surgery depends on the severity of the condition, although the procedure generally takes around 10 to 15 minutes per eye.
