Laser eye treatment the simple and effective route to improved vision

Posted in Contact Lenses on June 23, 2010

Laser eye treatment is an effective procedure which gives patients the chance to get rid of their glasses and contact lenses. The process offers almost immediate results with a minimal recovery time and minimal risk of complications.

Checking if you are suitable for the treatment

Long-sightedness, short-sightedness and astigmatisms can successfully be treated. You will have to find out if you are fit for the procedure by visiting an eye surgeon who will put you through a series of tests.

The Procedure

Throughout the procedure, you will remain awake. Though you will not be under general anesthetic, a local anesthetic in the form of drops will be applied to prevent pain in the eye. The cornea will then be accessed depending on the actual laser technique used. LASIK, the most popular eye correction treatment, involves making a thin incision in the upper layer of the cornea to create a flap. Then the laser beams are directed to reshape the cornea by a computer.

Recovery Process

Recovery after the treatment is normally quick. It may take a couple of days to adjust to your new vision but after that everything should settle down.

It is advisable to avoid activities such as driving immediately after surgery, as the sudden change in vision can be a little tricky.
