Lasik surgery for better eyesight
Posted in LASIK Surgery on November 6, 2008
Lasik is an acronym for laser assisted in situ keratomileusis, otherwise known as refractive surgery of the eye. This surgery is conducted on the cornea to eliminate the usage of contact lenses or spectacles. It is a technique that uses laser to cut the cornea in order to achieve the desired results. The process is considered safe because it allows vision correction with acute precision and minimal complications.
The surgery is simple and conducted in easy and planned stages. The patient is advised to stop the use of contact lenses for a few days prior to the surgery. During the operation the patient is immobilized in order to make it painless, the laser then cuts a flap in the cornea to re shape it. Once its done, the flap is carefully closed avoiding dust or air-bubbles. Post surgery the patient is prescribed some antibiotics and eyedrops, and advised to use dark glasses to avoid direct sunlight or bright light.
The patient should however realise the depth of the surgery and take both preoperative and postoperative advice into consideration. Since Lasik surgery uses high-end technology, it is ensured that the surgeons operating are of equally high calibre.
The cost of surgery is a small price to pay if you want to get rid of those glasses and lenses permanently.
