LASIK is an acronym for laser-assisted in-situ keratomileusis which is an eye treatment surgery. LASIK surgery is a popular method used for correcting visualisation difficulties that are caused by refractive error. With the help of LASIK surgery, farsightedness, nearsightedness and astigmatism can be treated. After LASIK surgery, the patient no longer has to wear glasses or contact lenses. In LASIK surgery, a laser is used to correcting the eyesight. Unlike the traditional methods of eye surgery, the LASIK eye surgery procedure does not take much time and recovery is quick.

During LASIK eye surgery, the eye is initially anesthetised by using a few anaesthetic drops. A minute flap that is created on the surface of cornea can then be accessed by the surgeon with the help of an instrument which is known as a microkeratome. After placing the corneal flap carefully, a cool excimer beam restructures the cornea and the focal point of eye is moved to provide clear vision. This corneal flap is then relocated and the process of healing begins. One of the important advantages of LASIK surgery is that the surgery can be completed in minutes. The healing process starts almost immediately and patients can resume their work in a couple of days.
