LASIK vision correction surgery – what it can do

In the past few years, millions of people across the globe have reaped the advantages of laser eye surgery and now, they no longer need to wear their glasses or contact lenses. Most people are aware that LASIK vision correction surgery uses laser technology for correcting eye problems. However, very few people are aware of what the actual procedure involves.

LASIK is the abbreviation of Laser Assisted In Situ Keratomieusis. It is a procedure with which you can improve your vision and get rid of your contact lenses and glasses. LASIK procedures repair many eye sight errors such as nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism, allowing patients to have perfect vision.

In the LASIK procedure, a cold laser beam is used for correcting problems with the cornea. These eyesight problems are generally caused due to certain refractive errors. By reshaping the cornea using a special procedure, the errors in refraction can be corrected to a great extent. Once the LASIK procedure is completed, patients should no longer have to wear their external vision correction devices such as glasses and contact lenses.

In the LASIK procedure, the surgeon cuts a small flap of tissue with the help of a laser. By cutting the small flap of corneal tissue, the surgeon can easily access the cornea to reshape it. After reshaping the cornea, the flap is returned to its original position and the procedure is complete. LASIK is a painless procedure that can be completed in approximately 10-15 minutes. Once the surgery is completed, patients can resume their daily activities within a couple of days.
