Points to be considered before opting for LASIK
Posted in LASIK Surgery on July 6, 2010
While LASIK is very successful and safe, like any procedure, there are some small risks involved. Reports suggest that LASIK accounts for around 95 percent of refractive surgeries. It is known to treat a wide range of refractive vision problems without causing many side effects.
Selecting your Surgeon
LASIK deals with the most delicate part of the eye. The surgeon should be selected after a detailed study on his/her background and reviews from former patients. The potential patient should check that the surgeon holds a proper recognised license. The clinic should have certification and the equipment should be modern.
Getting your Eyes Screened
Before opting for LASIK, the patient should check that they are suitable for LASIK. Some of the points that will be considered by the surgeon are:
- Your present medical condition - Any evidence of past diseases - Symptoms of any chronic diseases - Any problems with pupil dilation
In addition to these, the surgeon will also ask whether you have been using contact lenses for a long time. Contact lenses are susceptible to infection, which can lead to scarring. Patients who have had their eyes scarred will not be considered for LASIK.
Precautions to take after LASIK
The patient should avoid strenuous activities after the procedure. Contact with water should be minimised and dark glasses should be worn if possible.
Theres no doubt that LASIK has been extremely beneficial for scores of people all over the world.
