Precautions and care to be taken after LASIK surgery

Posted in LASIK Surgery on July 15, 2010

LASIK is a corrective measure against minor eye problems like hypermetropia, myopia and astigmatism. This is an almost painless treatment which gives you immediate results. The research has shown that these surgeries have 95 to 98% positive results. There are no side effects or much precaution needs to be taken for this surgery but there are some after care measures that need to be followed.

Aftercare measures

Do not scratch your eyes: Scratching your eyes should be completely avoided. The surgery makes the cornea a little delicate and sensitive. This sensitivity does not last for more than three to four days.

Drink lots of water: Your eyes need to be kept hydrated. They are more prone to dryness for few days after the surgery. So keeping your body hydrated internally becomes very important.

Give rest to your eyes: Your eyes should be given complete rest for at least twenty four hours. This can be attained by sleeping as much as possible. Use drops and medicine: Make use of prescribed drops and medicine. Many people avoid these things as they do not feel any kind of irritation or redness in the eyes. These drops should be used to avoid any kind of infection.

Taking a few precautions after laser eye surgery will give you much better results without causing any post surgery irritations. These irritations are temporary but can usually be avoided by following these aftercare precautions.
