Precautions needed for laser eye surgery

People with vision problems were confined to wearing glasses and contact lenses before the introduction of modern day surgical procedures. The medically advanced laser surgeries have proved to be a boon for individuals. While LASIK might be safe and highly effective, it is imperative for you to follow certain precautions for enhanced results.

What should you do prior to LASIK?

Consult your doctor for a second opinion before opting for LASIK. Stop using contact lenses two weeks prior to the procedure in order to allow your cornea to come back to its original shape. If you have been using hard contact lenses, prevent their use for at least 7 week prior to the procedure. Creams and other lotions can be obtrusive during the procedure and must be avoided. Get your eyes thoroughly checked before you opt for LASIK.

Precautions Post-LASIK

LASIK might be a quick procedure but you must allow your eyes to adapt to the changes. Avoid strenuous activities like staring at the TV or computer screen for extended periods. Sudden exposure to darkness or bright light should be avoided and eye movement should be minimised. Wear glasses or dark goggles as prescribed by the doctor. This helps in preventing dust from entering the eye. Administer eye drops on a regular basis. Any missed dose should be informed to your doctor immediately. Rubbing the eye should be avoided.
