Precautions to be taken before opting for LASIK
Posted in LASIK Surgery on July 3, 2010
In the last few years, laser treatments have gained a lot of popularity. LASIK has proved its worth as an effective treatment for getting clear eyesight. Care should be taken and the following points need to be followed:
Age: Teenagers below 18 years of age are not allowed to undergo LASIK because their vision keeps changing as they mature.
Preferences: If the patient is happy wearing glasses or contact lens, he/she need not undergo the procedure.
Vision stability: Patients with myopia need to have their vision stabilise first, as myopia generally advances until late 20s.
Equipment used for surgery: The equipment used by the LASIK surgeon should be state of the art.
Track Record: A surgeon that has been in the field for several years and has a good track record should be selected.
Conducting research into such factors will give you better clarity. All this research will also ensure the success of the surgery and it gives you an assurance that your vision should be returned to something approaching 20/20 after the procedure.
