Proper post-operative care for LASIK treatment

Posted in Eye Care on November 30, 2009

Of the many different treatments for medical conditions available today, LASIK eye surgery is perhaps the most common. This is mainly due to the advanced technology used to perform this treatment. Since its introduction, LASIK eye surgery has been providing patients with excellent results.

However, if you are undergoing LASIK eye surgery, it is important that you do not take the procedure for granted. Like all surgery, eye surgery comes with an element of risk, and it is important to reduce that risk by following certain rules post-operatively.

Keeping the eyes relaxed and free from stress is one of the most important healing instructions. This means that you should avoid watching television or looking at computer screens. For a few days after the operation, limit the time you spend on these activities.

Touching and rubbing your eyes is completely prohibited after LASIK treatment. You will be provided with goggles to wear in bed until the cornea has healed suitably.

It is also advisable to only bathe after a Lasik eye surgery rather than showering. You should also avoid spraying fluids in your eyes. Swimming is completely prohibited until the eye is fully healed.

Wearing sunglasses outside can be an effective way of protecting the eye from dust and debris at the same time as giving some comfort whilst the eye is sensitive to light.

Attending regular check-ups and ensuring full compliance with eye drop medication are also important for a successful Lasik eye surgery.
