Restore your vision through laser eye surgery
Posted in Laser Eye Surgery on November 1, 2008
Although our eyes are one of the most delicate and complicated parts of the body, eye surgery has become very popular over the last decade. This is because the procedure of laser eye surgery has become easier and it has provided thousands of successful results. The actual time of the operation is not very long and the recovery period is also very short.
The procedure of laser eye surgery begins first by applying anaesthetic to the eye which is to be treated. Then a laser controlled by a computer cuts a flap in the cornea. A laser beam is used instead of a scalpel to reduce the risk of infection. While cutting the flap in the cornea, a hinge is carefully left so that the flap can be folded back.
The flap is cut in the middle of the cornea to reveal the inner portion. The laser vaporises this part. The laser alters the shape of the cornea to regain proper vision. Once this is done, the flap is put back in its original place and the patient recovers within a few days. Although the operation sounds like a complicated procedure, it takes just about an hour to be completed.
The patient has to wear a patch on the operated eye for about 24 hours once the operation is over. The eye may take a little while to adjust completely after the laser eye surgery but you can be sure of successful results.
