Steps to be taken after undergoing laser eye surgery

Posted in Laser Eye Surgery on June 10, 2009

Laser eye surgery is a painless vision correction surgery which allows the patient to see clearly after the procedure.

After undergoing a laser eye surgery the patient is often tempted to rub the eyes since a small amount of irritation may be felt. This must never be done after a laser eye surgery. Since the corneal tissues are cut during the procedure, it is very important not to rub the eyes in any way as that will hinder the healing process.

Due to this reason, it is common that doctors ask their patients to refrain from any strenuous exercise or group sport immediately after the laser eye surgery as they might hurt their eyes unintentionally.

Another important thing to do after a laser eye surgery is that the patient should wear sunglasses and refrain from direct eye contact with bright sources of light. The patient should also keep hydrated during the period after the laser eye surgery as this lessens the feeling of irritation in the eyes.

If all these suggestions followed and any given medication taken, the recovery period after a surgery may be reduced.
