Suffering from astigmatism or other vision problems? Opt for LASIK surgery
Posted in LASIK Surgery on August 6, 2010
Today, many people in the world are suffering from different vision problems such as long-sightedness, short-sightedness and astigmatism. Astigmatism is commonly found amongst adults. It occurs when the cornea changes from its natural spherical shape. This leads to two points of focus instead of one on the retina.
If you are suffering from astigmatism, then you may be having difficulties seeing near as well as far away objects. By wearing glasses or contact lenses, you can see clearly but it is not a permanent treatment. If you are searching for a permanent method then LASIK eye surgery is the ideal option for you.
Earlier, treating astigmatism was complicated and time consuming. Due to the latest lasers used in LASIK eye surgery, treating astigmatism has become simpler. If you have decided to undergo laser treatment then consult an eye specialist immediately. The doctor will check your vision problem and treat it accordingly.
How LASIK treats astigmatism
During surgery, the surgeon uses lasers which are used to cut a corneal flap. The flap is then folded back to expose the cornea. The surgeon then treats the middle layers of the cornea. Light pulses are used to reshape the cornea, returning it to its original shape. Once this procedure is completed then the corneal flap is repositioned.
