The aftercare schedule for laser surgery patients

Posted in Laser Eye Surgery on April 21, 2009

Laser eye surgery is a painless vision correction surgery that corrects the defects of vision permanently. Immediately after the laser eye surgery the patient is asked to sleep so that the process of healing can begin without interruption. After the surgery, the patient can see everything properly through the corrected eye without glasses or contact lenses.

Although the result of laser eye surgery is immediate, it takes time for the eyes to heal and become normal. Thus after the laser eye surgery, it is important to follow the below mentioned points.

The medication and eye drops that are prescribed by the doctor must be taken by the patient as instructed as this hastens the healing process. Wearing sunglasses for a period of 20 days 1 month after the laser eye surgery is must. The sunglasses protect the newly corrected eyes against harsh light which might otherwise damage the eyes.

Patients must be very careful not to hurt the eyes or rub the eyes in the period following the laser eye surgery treatment as that might hinder the healing process or damage the eyes. It is thus advised that at least for a period of 20 days 1 month the patients refrain from rigorous exercise or participating in group sports.

Drinking ample water is must as this keeps the eye hydrated. Finally, eye make up should not be used in the aftermath of the laser eye surgery. These few points will mean the patients will recover sooner and will be able to get back to normal life.
