The possible causes and symptoms of impaired vision

December 1, 2009
Posted in Eye problems — Written by Bridget

Many people get vision impaired either due to age or accidents. You can also suffer from vision impairment right from birth. Millions of people suffer from symptoms like early blindness, blurred vision and night blindness, as well as cloudy vision or poor peripheral vision. These types of symptoms have many causes.

• Myopia: It is commonly known as short-sightedness and happens when the cornea curves too much. The cornea is effectively the screen where the image is formed in the eye. This misshape produces a blurry image. Computer use may increase the risk of myopia.
• Presbyopia: It is commonly known as long-sightedness. The people with this are often over the age of 40.
• Astigmatism: This visual disorder is more complex. The object and distance are both misjudged by a person with astigmatism. The possible causes of astigmatism are birth disorder or Keratoconus. It is extreme thinning of the cornea.

You must consult an optician to get eye problems correctly identified. Many eye related ailments are now treatable through laser surgery and other state of the art techniques.
