Things to consider before and after undergoing Lasik surgery
Posted in LASIK Surgery on October 27, 2009
Lasik surgery is a refractive procedure which can help to correct myopia, astigmatism and hyperopia. There are number of steps that should be taken- both before and after the surgery- in order to ensure that the procedure is as successful and safe as possible Before Lasik surgery Patients who wear soft contact lenses are advised not to wear them for 21 days before the surgery, whilst patients who are wear hard contact lenses are instructed to stop wearing them for at six weeks before surgery. Before the surgery begins the patients corneas are checked with a pachymeter to determine their thickness. With a low-power laser, a surgeon traces around the cornea. This process also helps to detect any eye problems. The surgeon then calculates the amount of tissue that needs to be removed during the procedure. After Lasik surgery After the operation is complete, the patient is often given antibiotics and eye drops. These are usually required to be taken for a couple of weeks, and patients are given dark shields to protect their eyes from bright lights. Lasik surgery can be less risky and less painful than many other kinds of laser correction surgery, and the healing process is generally speedy if the correct procedures are followed.
