Mr Balasubramaniam Ilango

Mr Ilango is an NHS Consultant and specialist eye surgeon who has now been a qualified doctor for more than 15 years. He was awarded Membership of the prestigious Royal College of Ophthalmologists in 1994 and awarded a Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons in the same year. He has been recognised as a Specialist in ophthalmology by the UK's General Medical Council for more than 4 years.

He is a fully accredited laser eye surgeon holding the "Certification in Refractive Surgery" qualification from the Royal College of Ophthalmologists after under-going strict assessment in surgical skills and patient management. Over the last 10 years he has performed more than 7,000 laser eye surgery treatments. In addition to laser refractive surgery he also has a special interest in cataract surgery having performed more than 10,000 such operations in his career to date.

He is currently an NHS Consultant Eye Surgeon at the Royal Wolverhampton Hospitals NHS Trust, has previously been Director of the Primary Eye Care Unit at the Royal Liverpool University Hospital and has held the position of Fellow at the highly prestigious Moorfields Eye Hospital, the oldest and one of the largest centres for ophthalmic treatment, teaching and research in the world.

Mr Ilango ensures other surgeons gain the benefit of his immense experience and skill and has written and presented more than 40 scientific papers across the world including at the Royal College of Ophthalmologists Congress and in the influential British Journal of Ophthalmology. Mr Ilango's work has immensely benefited patients.

There are just 54 surgeons in the UK and Ireland who have attained the Royal College Certification in laser eye surgery. Mr Ilango, a respected NHS Consultant and specialist, is justifiably proud to be one of them.
