Mr Sumith Perera

Sumith Perera, laser eye surgeon

Mr Perera is a specialist eye surgeon and has now been a qualified doctor for more than 25 years. He was awarded Membership of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists in 1991 and a Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons in 1993. Mr Perera is a fully accredited laser eye surgeon holding the "Certification in Refractive Surgery" qualification from the prestigious Royal College of Ophthalmologists after under-going strict assessment in surgical skills and patient management. He has immense experience and over the last 10 years has performed more than 14,000 laser eye surgery treatments.

Mr Perera has a strong background within the NHS and currently practices as an Associate Specialist in Ophthalmology within Surrey and Sussex NHS Trust performing a wide range of eye surgery procedures within this role. His has also held an Honorary position at the highly prestigious Moorfields Eye Hospital, the oldest and one of the largest centres for ophthalmic treatment, teaching and research in the world.

Mr Perera ensures other surgeons gain the benefit of his immense experience and skill and has written and presented numerous scientific papers across the world including both the Royal College of Ophthalmologists Journal "Eye" and at their Annual Congresses. A highly prolific and respected clinical authority, Mr Perera's work has immensely benefited laser patients. Mr Perera has relentlessly pursued correct standards for surgeons performing laser surgery and has trained numerous eye surgeons in laser eye surgery.

There are just 54 surgeons in the UK and Ireland who have attained the Royal College Certification in laser eye surgery. Mr Perera is justifiably proud to be one of them. Ultralase awarded Mr Perera a well earned place on their Medical Advisory Committee ensuring clinical standards for the company due to his knowledge and limitless pursuit of excellence.
