Mr Sumith Perera MBBS, DCEH (Lon), MRCOphth., FRCS
Mr Perera qualified from the University of Colombo, Sri Lanka, in 1984. Having obtained the Diploma in Ophthalmology in 1987 he won a World Health Organisation scholarship to study Ophthalmology at the Institute of Ophthalmology and at Moorfields Eye Hospital, London. He obtained Membership of the Royal College of Ophthalmologist in 1991, and Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons in 1993. After training in hospitals in the South Thames region he was appointed as an Ophthalmologist to the Royal Navy in 1994. He joined the staff of the Surrey and Sussex NHS Trust in January 1996 where he performs laser eye surgery, cataract and other ocular procedures. He has performed laser eye surgery since March 1996; his areas of special interest are cataract and refractive surgery. Mr Perera has presented scientific papers on laser eye surgery at international conferences and has been involved in teaching refractive surgery. Mr Perera joined Ultralase in 2001 and has performed over 14,000 laser eye surgery procedures.
