Sukumaran Ramanathan

Mr Ramanathan graduated as a doctor in 1977. He had his training in Ophthalmology at the Royal Eye Hospital, Manchester and became a registrar at the Glasgow Eye Infirmary. Following this, he was appointed Consultant Ophthalmologist at the King Faisal Specialist Hospital in Saudi Arabia. On his return to the UK, he held the position of Consultant Ophthalmologist at Watford General Hospital, Hertfordshire, and in 1993 he joined the staff at the Royal Eye Unit, Kingston-upon-Thames, Surrey. Mr Ramanathan joined Ultralase in 2004 and is a professional affiliate of the American Society of Cataract & Refractive Surgeons and the European Society of Cataract & Refractive Surgeons. Mr Ramanathan has performed over 9,000 laser eye surgery procedures.

Mr Ramanathan is author of numerous papers, including:

• "Safety and Efficacy of the Femtosecond laser", presented at the ESCRS conference in Athens, Greece (February 2007)
• "Evaluation of Wavefront guided hyperopic LASIK", presented at the ASCRS conference in San Francisco, USA (March 2006) and published in the 'Ocular Surgery' journal.
• "Wavefront guided ablation- How to get the best results", presented at the ASCRS conference in Washington D.C, USA (April 2005)
• "Visual Outcome after Cataract Surgery - an Annual Audit Process using a Sample Survey", presented at the ESCRS Conference at Barcelona (January 2004)
• "The Role of Epithelial Flap in PRK", presented at the ESCRS Conference in Amsterdam (September 2001)
• "Refractive Surgery in Non-Corneal Astigmatism", presented at the ESCRS Conference in Nice (September 1998)
• "Wound Healing in Diabetic Patients following PRK", presented at the ESCRS Conference in Prague (September 1997)
• "Corneal Topography", presented at a symposium on PRK at the ASCRS Conference in Boston (April 1997)
• "Influence of Corticosteroids on Post-PRK Healing", presented at the UK International Ophthalmic Excimer Laser Congress, Oxford (April 1996)
