Understanding your vision

Normal vision Pic to be added

Your vision is not clear because your eye is either too long or too short and this causes your cornea to incorrectly focus light entering your eye. Laser eye treatment reshapes your cornea to compensate for the misshape of your eye and allow light to be focused on your retina.

Short-sightedness Pic to be added

Short sight is when your eye is too long, which causes the cornea to focus light before it hits the back of the eye (retina).

Long-sightedness Pic to be added

Long sight is when your eye is too short, which means that the cornea focuses light behind the back of the eye (retina).

Astigmatism

Astigmatism is when your eye is shaped more like a rugby ball than a football. This causes vision to blur at all distances.

Presbyopia

Presbyopia is a different condition and isn’t to do with the cornea. It is when the lens in your eye begins to harden, which means it can no longer flex as much as it needs to focus light from near objects onto the back of your eye.

Cataracts

Cataracts are a aging condition which eventually affect almost everyone. The natural lens of the eye becomes gradually clouded causing blurring of vision (rather like a window that is frosted or fogged with steam) which cannot be corrected with glasses
